What is the Power of Peace Network?
The founders of UNESCO recognized the importance of exchange, dialogue, and mutual understanding in conflict resolution and prevention. As the organization’s constitution states, ‘since wars begin in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men that the defenses of peace must be constructed’.
The Power of Peace Network (PPN) promotes a Culture of Peace and Non‐Violence around the world by giving peace‐builders, and in particular young people in particular, a platform to share their visions and projects through the innovative use of information communication technology (ICT) and social networking sites.
Mutual understanding comes from exploring and doing things together. Collaboration is the way ahead. Young people in particular understand this. Young people are the inhabitants of th contemporary digital world. They are certainly earning and creating within the formal halls of learning, but also more and more through the media and social network.
The PPN concept rests on the simple premise of using communication technology to create a "network of networks" interested in the promotion of peace and dialogue. As an emerging partnership initiative, PPN does not duplicate or compete with what has already been done. Rather, it works with partner organizations, such as NGOs, multilateral and bilateral partners, private sector foundations and internet practitioners in order tu support locally produced content for distribution and interchange on a variety of platforms.
The PPN network aims to connect people from around the world, creating the opportunity for fruitful exchange between a multitude of cultural perspectives and encouraging mutual understanding, dialogue and exchange, as well as imaginative solutions necessary for securing sustainable peace.
